Beautiful indeed. So sad what it has come to.morag wrote:Lovely, but Is it out of bounds now? I suppose that works 2 ways, protects the public and the castle, but how I loved roaming around there, romantic imaginings in my young girlish mind crossing the wee arched bridge between the ruins and the manor house...ah me..lol! Do love those arched windows.

Those were the days James.
Check the dress of the people, all walking about in suits and big overcoats
What'd you reckon early 60's?
Re: " A Saunter roon Stinstin"
When was all this eventually closed? I seem to have some kind of memory of it myself, as my grandparents once lived in Caledonia Road They lived there during the 70s and into the 80s?!?!

I was on Stevenston shore during the summer ( the summer was Thursday of last week ) just along from where the paddling pool was.
I see there's a new much longer metal footbridge going across the burn at the Sandy Hills area.
Well, new to me, 1st I've been on the shore in maybe 3 years.
I think it's close to the site of the old Jubilee Bridge.

peterm, is this the bridge you are referring to. Like yourself I've often wondered about the exact location of the jubilee bridge, looking at the old photos would suggest its in/around that location.

Aye LP, that's the bridge I was on for the first time recently.
I think you're correct that it appears to be on or very near to the site of the Jubilee Bridge.
Photos are obviously taken from opposite banks of the burn though

This is a image of a steam engine from Ardrossan arriving at the Ardeer platform (62) , whats the chance of our members recognising those on the platform.

I think this will be the best post to ask a question about Stevenston, In the early 60's there was a sweet shop in [b]Burnbank street Stevenston just off Moorpark road does anybody remember the name of it. ( and I am not talking about the wee cabin that was mrs Elliots or the shop at the corner of hillside st). I have been racking my brains but no joy can anybody remember the name.

Gerv,
Big T has previously spoken about McCann's 'Wee Cabin'; Mrs. Elliot's and Peter Guidi's Fish and Chip and Sweetie Shop but he was also stumped for another shop in the same locality, probably the same one as you .

Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.
