The Easyfit shoe shop
The Easyfit shoe shop
Does anyone remember it? My Gran was the manageress. There was also one at Stevenston Cross and one in Largs.

Re: The Easyfit shoe shop
Welcome Pollianna. I imagine most people will remember the Easyfit trade name. I'm struggling however, to remember the exact location of shops in the 3T's. Was there one in Dockhead Street, Saltocats? I think it might be the shoe shop that one or two members have a childhood memory of looking down through a green screen to see a x-ray picture of their feet to ensure proper fitting? These are the quaint things we sometimes recall here.
Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.

Hi Pollianna, the easyfit was right opposite Woolworths when I was a wee boy. Some time ago some one sent in a photo of Dockhead St.think it was taken during the Glasgow Fair, the street is packed ,there is one old car in the street. If you can dig that photo out of the photo section you will see easyfit on the right hand side.In later years I think it moved to the other side of the street, just past the opening into the Braes???hope this helps you. Sam.

I agree Penny - I wonder where the photographer was? People seem to be looking up at the camera, so was he balanced precariously out of one of the corner shop's window!Penny Tray wrote:What a photie!!!!!

It's nice to see that picture. My dad who recently passed away would have loved that one as he was a saltcoats boy through and through. Thanks for posting it.

Re: The Easyfit shoe shop
The old Easiephit shoe shop was pulled down around 1971 , along with the former Baillie's carpet shop next door, to make way for the new Grafton's dress shop.

PS Another picture showing those two shops at the end of the 1960s can now be seen here :

Re: The Easyfit shoe shop
Notice the wee group outside the Albion loking inside. Might it have been so busy there was no room inside, or might they be waiting for it to open?

I wrong in saying there was an "Easiephit" shop in Ardrossan down from the "Deepsea" almost across from Camerons the Grocer and Guthries the butcher?
