You're spot on SC, the manufacturer's name is on the side of the benches. Aye, they're based in Kilmarnock. https://www.davidogilvie.com/products/seats-benches
That particular model of Bench is to commemorate WW1 I believe, but there's also various other styles, including a WW2 themed one.
Not sure who commissioned them JD. I'm only guessing at the moment but maybe North Ayrshire Council themselves with some input from organisation's like the British Legion etc ?

I suppose that the centenary of the end of WW1 is the reason for them being commissioned.

JD.

When I saw the thumbnail for this photo I thought the view looked a wee bit familiar. And now I'm 100% certain it was taken at Girvan Golf Course looking down on the 8th and 1st fairway's, with the par3 8th Green to be seen on the left. The practise putting Green and Starters Hut are also in the pic.

Really excellent photo's of the one in Largs there by the Pro-Photographer.

Couldn't help noticing it's been chained to a lamp post though. Glad we've no need for such extreme security measures here in the Threetown's. :)
