That was Miss Elsie Banks where she had a shop with ladieswear.

Jessie Banks. I knew it didn't sound right.

thank you John,
I,ve been trying to remember other shops in Boglemart Street. Tell me if I,m right.

Harry Donnelly's (who was a great pal of my Grandfather Wullie Duffy), who might be a relative of yours. Then Blair Boyd. and someone else further down I can't remember on that side. The other side of course is all the ones we see in the photos.

Regarding the flower shop. My Gt Gt Kelly grandparents lived there at 56 Boglemart Street during the 1861 census. This image from google in 2017. Image

Hi Anna
Yes, Harry was my father. Was your grandfather from Glencairn St? Would Willie and John Duffy be your uncles, or maybe brothers, from Glencairn? Willie was in my class at St. John's.
The shop at the beginning of Boglemart beside the burn was originally Hughie Frew's plumbers business.
Then it was Frank Gilmour's electrical shop and later he made a record shop of it.

Hello John,

My grandpa lived in Morrison Avenue, and my uncle was Bill Duffy who was in the Marine Commandos during the war and was educated probably in the Higher Grade. My mother was Joan Duffy (or Jan as she was known by). I think Willie and John Duffy might belong to the same family as Emily and Annie Duffy as they had twin brothers, but I recollect them staying in Hayocks Road

Thanks for letting me know about Jessie Banks , Hughie Frew and Gilmour's. It's great to have my memory jogged.

Regards,

Anna

Up until I was about 10, we lived with grandparents, 14 Glencairn St...I think, neighbours on one side Agnes and Bella Duffy who took in their sister's boys, Can barely remember William, but he showed up in uniform from time to time, John was quiet, James a lot of fun and a tease! On the other side were 2 families, only remember the Reids, boys, Lynn and Andrew? Think they were grandkids too. My grandparents were the Quinns.

My uncle Bill Duffy was a great friend of Patsy Quinn who stayed in Glencairn Street. Any relation?

I'm sure, gran and grampa had 10 children, James, John, Pat, William (who died at the end of ww11) and Frank, plus Cathie, Sadie, Agnes? who died got caught on fire trying to light it.)Bette (my mum) and Theresa. Pat moved to Kilwinning eventually. Believe he has sons still there, John, Terry (I believe was a local D.J?) and Patrick.

Morag, Terry ran a disco in the Claremont hotel Kilwinning and later upstairs in the Kings- Irvine. John was a committed socialist and Pat was Celtic daft. I had the pleasure of drinking with the brothers on a few occasions and i have never known a family so popular with everybody. Beautiful people.
