Heritage Museum - It's All Over !!

Hi,

From this Saturday, 17/9/16, the Heritage Museum will CLOSE to have its roof repaired. This will take until New Year 2017.

After that, all books are being moved to the Town Hall, Irvine. Geneology will also be across in Irvine.

The Museum (when re-opened) will just be a museum with no computers even.

What ARE N.A.C. thinking. Utter determination to take anything of value out of the three toons.

Glad to here they are looking after the old Ardrossan Church.

So sad. I love visiting Heritage Museum when I'm up in Stevenston looking for info re the family tree. Lovely kind & helpful staff. I don't think I will go again now that it's moved to Irvine.

The Genealogy side came from Irvine in the first place, at Irvine Vennel

Edit-Is was cramped there with so many books. Looking forward to going to Irvine.

Sweet Caroline, I think you'll find the museum is in Saltcoats and once the roof is fixed it will just be a museum and not a heritage centre and I guess its days are numbered. Not well visited when it was just a museum.

Exactly. People will only go in from out of town to view stuff. If you're a local you would have seen it all before.

Dunno if the exhibitions will continue, or if they too will move to Irvine.

That was what it was before the Family History side moved in .I wondered at the time how everything could fit in the old Church.

I was under the impression the family data stuff would be moved to the new revamped SALTCOATS Townhall??

Nope. Geneology off to Irvine with the computers too, I hear.

I believe, until then, geneology drop in services will be at Saltcoats library. Don't know dates n times however.

The building has been neglected since the early 70s changing the format circa ten years ago did little" save freshen it's face".....Sadly the Technical Staff of NAC have no knowledge maintaining old building , cavity wall and kit that's their limit
