Old Ardeer Golf Club
Old Ardeer Golf Club
Hi,
Anyone out there who was a member before the club moved to Greenhead in 1966? My father Bob Hammersley was the secretary at the time and the captain was Davie Campbell. The treasurer Jim Wales. I remember us lifting the greens from the old courseand the early years of the new one. I have often thought it would be an idea to set up a Founders Club in relation to members who made the transition at that time. I was a member of the old club from 1962 to 1966, and the new from 1966 to 1972 when I left for St Andrews.
Does anyone have a scorecard for the old course ( which was fantastic and a tragedy when ICI reclaimed the land).

My dad and my two brothers were members of the old Ardeer Golf Club and if I remember rightly were the first people to play over the new course. Jimbo can verify.

Len, here's an old photo of the club house.
P.S. Len, would I be right in stating that you were the lad that fell down the shaft at Stevenston point.

I have no recollection of the old Ardeer course in operation but I am aware where it was located. If you go onto the grassland some way opposite the building that was the former Nylon Works Offices, the area appears to be part of a former fairway of the course. I'm willing to be corrected though.

Hi Little Plum,
Thankk you for the photo. I think it is of the old clubhouse on the first course at Sandyhills. Yes, I am the boy whe fell down the mine shaft at Ardeer point.

Lenny, I remember that incident quite clearly. I lived at 50 Misk knowes at the time, just down from where you stayed.

Len, this was taken at the top end of Caledonian road. The house on the left is still there and can be checked out on google street view.len wrote:Hi Little Plum,

My parents were members of the old and new clubs and were all were juniors of both. Can remember riding the tractors when we moved the turf.
