A cafe in Countess street Saltcoats

I have read many posts on this cafe on Countess Street ,They sold a toasted sandwich with stripes on it (fourty years )ago . George Foreman donkeys years behind .
Was a place called the Savoy / Three blind Mice . Good times

The Cafe was the Mayfair ,it was owned by Moroni.The 3 blind mice or Savoy was owned by the Lanni's and I prefered Lanni's rolls and sausage.

thanks, wellparkno9. Both the Mayfair and the Savoy where brilliant wee cafes in them days.

I remeber the Mayfair.
Was it Aldo Moroni who owned it ?
Next to Bobby Lennox's pub ?

i might be wrong again , was their a chip shop with seating at the back which separated the Mayfair and the Savoy, Scotty i was a Saturday tourist so cant help with the names

there was a chippy in the middle ,The Station Restaurant,the seating was at the front.You went up a long close for the carry out bit.

upstairs in the three blind mice there was a tv which me and my sister helen used to watch, there was also one in louis scotts chip shop upstairs great times

I remember walking up the passageway to buy chips after going to the matinee. They were always hot and vinegary - yum.

Last time I was in the Station Restaurant was in 2009, the sign in the window said "Plaza ice-cream sold here". So I had one and devoured it on my way back to Stevenston via the coastal (slabs) route.

Dont know whether I have said it before - here in South Australia you have to ask for vinegar and sometimes you have to wait whilst they rummage out the back looking for it. Then when you get it, its bloody white wine vinegar! Most of them would not know proper malt vinegar if you belted them over the head with a bottle of it! Wee Ali

Morag, are penny pickles small onions . Ali what is the norm on Chips in oz just Salt . If you dont like Fish what else can you have in the Aussie chip shops?
