3Ts Text Reports From The BBC

Post by Richard »

I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread based on reports from the BBC Teletext service.
Hopefully, the news items will encourage debate/discussion OR at the very least will alert others to
the story being reported ? Especially those of us who no longer live in the Threetowns and may not be
aware of the recent "gossip" ? The reports will only be from the 3Ts and added If and when I discover them.
Reports from elsewhere in Ayrshire & Arran will be posted outwith this thread.
The reports are all from the BBC, unless otherwise stated, and will be quoted word for word.

Man Arrested In Connection With The Death of Another Man:
"A 21-year old has been arrested in connection with the death of another man in a seaside town in Ayrshire.
Strathclyde Police made the move after William Graham, 46, died following what officers described as a
"disturbance" in Ardrossan.
The incident took place in the town's Craigspark district at about 15.15 on Thursday.
The 21-year old is in police custody. He is expected to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday"

There are never enough police patrols. Especially over friday and saturday nights. more patrols and presence is the answer.

Viv, whats missing from Richards post is, it was a nephew/ uncle incident in the family home. I would think this is outwith the local constabularies jurisdiction.

Yet what Viv says is true and has been for many a year. The lack of visible presence of the 'cop on the beat' encourages bad acts. The lack of suitable punishment encourages same. We used to respect the 'polis' and be a wee bit feart of acting up if one was around. Now the court /legal system seem to favour the wrongdoer. I'm all for innocent until proven guilty but it seems the guilty get away with a handsmack. Mind, I don't like it here even more with it's shoot first ask questions later system.

Personally, i am totally pro shoot first, ask later. in my grandad's time, the polis knew all the local people. nowadays, people don't even know who their neighbours are, until something goes wrong. we live in such a self obsessed world. all the technology and yet across the street we don't know who someone is.

Man tortured for days over debt:
Two men have been jailed for kidnapping and torturing another man for two days because he owed them money.
Mark Douglas, 34, and Peter Welsh, 48, admitted abducting and seriously assaulting 25-year-old John Alcroft at
a flat in Ardrossan in March.
They "blow torched" his face with a lit deodorant spray, threw chemicals at him and put soap powder in a stab
wound.
At the High Court in Edinburgh, Douglas was jailed for seven and a half years and Welsh was jailed for four years.

Barriers for all level crossings:
All railway level crossings in Scotland are to get safety barriers, Network Rail have confirmed.
It follows the successful completion of a pilot scheme testing new mini barriers at a level crossing
in Ardrossan in Ayrshire.
The first places to get them are all in the Highlands.
They are Corpach, Brora, Kirkton and Dalchalm.
There are 23 open level crossings in Scotland, most of them in the Highlands.

Probe into ship dead 'mass grave':
Archaeologists are excavating a graveyard in North Ayrshire in a bid to determine whether victims of a
war-time sea tragedy are buried in a mass grave.
The investigation at Ardrossan Cemetery aims to establish if casualties from HMS Dasher are buried there.
The aircraft carrier sank off the town on 27 March 1943 with the loss of 379 of her 528 crew.
Of the 68 bodies recovered, 24 were buried at Ardrossan Cemetery.
It is not known what happened to the other 44.

Severe Weather Causing Disruption
A Network Rail spokesman told the BBC that they were looking at a good service in the morning but as the afternoon goes on and the weather sweeps in, we may see some disruption.
Between Kilwinning and Ardrossan strong winds and water coming off the coast and on to overhead power lines mean that we have had to turn the power off and put on a replacement bus service, so travel is still possible but by bus rather than train.
