Stovies: My dad always made stovies with sausages, and added a bit more turnip than is recommended here. He was a Saltcoats man, and I remember visiting another Saltcoats family here in Oz and their stovies were identical to my dad's.

I like oatcakes, but they are hard on the teeth.

Re: Maw Broon's Cookbook
One of our patients who recently visited Scotland fell in love with oatcakes... I told him he could buy them at Whole Foods, ( a local high end supermarket). He was ecstatic.

On the subject of stovies my mum used Grubb's steak slice. However she would grill the slice to get rid of the fat. It was unbelievable the amount of white fat at the bottom of the grill pan. Obviously she was health conscious as the fat was dumped. Anyway the seasoned slice gave the stovies a lovely flavour.

Not too far off subject I hope?
Last week I went to see the stage show "The Broons" It was a laugh a minute, singing and dancing and a humorous story line, "our Wullie" even made an appearance.
