Agnes Nellie Breckenridge

Post by Deepdraught »

I'm looking for any information on Agnes Nellie Breckenridge who was living in 14 Parkend Road, Saltcoats in 1915.
Her husband John Beveridge was born in 1887 or 1888 and came from Stevenston.
They were married in September 1914 and had a very young child.
John was killed on 14th September 1915 in France in the First World War.
He had worked in Auchenharvie Colliery in Stevenston.

The 11 September 1914 edition of the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald shows the marriage of an AGNES NELLIS to JOHN BEVERIDGE (Not BRECKENRIDGE) of Stevenston at St.Mary's RC Church.Saltcoats.

Could you have a wrong name? Has the person who has transcribed the above information into the database got it wrong? Or, maybe, there is no connection to your lady?

Sorry about the credits! But the mystery has been solved. Your fellow Mega Heid Poster Penny Tray found the first marriage in the local rag at 11 Sep 1914 of Agnes Nellis to John Beveridge (who was killed in action a year later), and you have given me her second marriage to William Breckenridge in 1921. She then emigrated in 1926. Thanks so much for solving this conundrum! In the CWGC site they had her down as Agnes NELLIE Breckenridge. Nellie also appeared as her (sole) name in the newspaper announcement of his death.

CWGC
BEVERIDGE,JOHN,J,24,,14/09/1915,,Private,Royal Scots,13th Bn.,France,'14555',
CHOCQUES MILITARY CEMETERY,I. D. 98.,
"SON OF JOHN AND SUSAN BEVERIDGE, OF ARDEER SQUARE, STEVENSTON HUSBAND OF AGNES NELLIE BRECKENRIDGE, FORMERLY BEVERIDGE), OF 14, PARKEND RD., SALTCOATS, AYRSHIRE."

It's all there in fact except we misunderstood the context, not realising that this information must date from after her remarriage in 1921.

Thank you also for the other details of her and her husband's death in America.
