Thank you so much for all that info, S.C.

Yes, William did remarry. William's death notice refers to his second wife, Eliza Penny previously to Agnes Orr.
Ref: Scotland's People S R Deaths 1872 Statutory Deaths McCreadie, William 576/02 0025
District of New Ardsrossan, County of Ayr.

Unfortunately I haven't found a death notice for Agnes, but it was obviously between 1851 when she appeared in the Census and 1858 when William married Eliza Pennie. As you indicate, it was probably between 1851 and 1855.

This is much more addictive then jigsaw puzzles, isn't it?

All the best, Jayjay1

Thanks S.C

I wondered about the Lickers and the Gickers in the Census. There often seem to be other names at the bottom of the list. I notice Margaret is listed as a "Press" Maker. Jessie was listed as dressmaker in the 1851 census so I wonder if Press is a transcription error?

It's interesting to see all the family connections. I wonder if many have stayed in the area?

Thanks, again, Jayjay1

I came across the following family intimation which may be of interest to someone. It doesn't seem to appear in the Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald:-

GLASGOW HERALD
7 DECEMBER 1880

DEATH

McMILLAN: Suddenly at 6 Derby Terrace (Glasgow), JESSIE McCREADIE, wife of Captain James McMillan, late of Ardrossan.
Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.

Hi Jayjay1,

My name is Stewart McMillan and having been living in Perth since 1990. My Great Grandfather was William McMillan born 1863 who was the brother of your Great Grandfather Thomas Orr McMillan. I have only started looking at our family tree which I bought over from England when we emigrated and which had been compiled by Betty Garrett. Betty visited us from Australia sometime in the 1970's when she was working on the McMillan Family Tree. The reason I have become interested is that my father's brother, William Roy McMillan (WRM), came to Australia in 1950, joined the ADF in 1951 and was unfortunately KIA in Korea in 1953. I have received information from the ADF regarding WRM as I am applying for a Last Post Ceremony and within the information received is a letter from Thomas Orr McMillan written on behalf of my grandmother, Grace McMillan, requesting his military service medals. Co-incidentally my father Kenneth Ian McMillan has (aged 91 and living in England) has only just received these medals and so this has sparked my interest in our family tree here in Australia.
