The wintry west extends his blast,
And hail and rain does blaw;
Or the stormy north sends driving forth
The blinding sleet and snaw:
Wild-tumbling brown, the burn comes down,
And roars frae bank to brae:
And bird and beast in covert rest,
And pass the heartless day.

Her hair is like the curling mist,
That climbs the mountain-sides at e’en
When flow’r-reviving rains are past–
And she has twa sparkling, rogueish-een.

O, wert thou in the cauld blast
On yonder lea, on yonder lea,
My plaidie to the angry airt,
I'd shelter thee, I'd shelter thee,
Or did misfortune's bitter storms
Around thee blaw, around thee blaw,
Thy bield should be my bosom,
To share it a', to share it a'.

You should have been taught by Maisie Wade. Looking back, I sometimes think that she taught Burns and on an afterthought, some other things.
A slight exaggeration, I confess, but she was a great Burns fan, and she infected us all. In general, there was a lot of Burns taught at St. Mick's.
St. Mick's sent a few entries every year to the Ayrshire Burns competition in Ayr, not without success.

So magical and touching and I believe not long before his demise. Took the waters on the Solway and probably hurried things on a bit. But don't you know our world would have been so much dimmer without this man. A star that still shines for all mankind.

I had her as a teacher, very eccentric. Really liked her.

With passions wild and strong;
And list’ning to their wretched voice
Has often led me wrong.

A well known Ardrossan worthy who frequented the Winton Bar used to say he was ‘glorious’ when asked how he was near the end of his Saturday sessions....

Care, mad to see a man sae happy,
E'en drown'd himsel' amang the nappy!
As bees flee hame wi' lades o' treasure,
The minutes wing'd their way wi' pleasure:
Kings may be blest, but Tam was glorious.
O'er a' the ills o' life victorious!

This was his favourite verse - and - his name was Tam...

And maybe this at the final session, so to speak:-

As Tam the chapman on a day
Wi’ Death forgether’d by the way,
Weel pleas’d he greets a wight so famous,
And Death was nae less pleas’d wi’ Thomas,
Wha cheerfully lays down his pack,
And there blaws up a hearty crack:
His social, friendly, honest, heart
Sae tickled Death, they could na part;
Sae, after viewing knives and garters,
Death taks him hame to gie him quarters.

Burns loved Scotland and its rich language, just as he also loved operating in an Anglified Edinburgh cafe society where he could indulge his passion for removing the foundation garments of titled and powdered ladies.

Fair play to the Man :lol:
