When I sleep I dream,
When I wauk I’m eerie,
Sleep I can get nane,
For thinkin’ on my dearie.

Youth, Grace, and Love attendant move,
And Pleasure leads the van:
In a’ their charms, and conquering arms,
They wait on bonie Ann.

Re: A wee bit o' Burns
Her clos’d eyes, like weapons sheath’d,
Were sealed in soft repose;
Her lips, still as she fragrant breath’d,
It richer dyed the rose.
The springing lilies, sweetly prest,
Wild-wanton kiss’d her rival breast:
He gaz’d, he wish’d,
He fear’d, he blush’d,
His bosom ill at rest.

The crystal waters gently fa’,
The merry birds are lovers a’,
The scented breezes round him blaw –
The gard’ner wi’ his paidle.

If I be black, I canna be lo’ed;
If I be fair, I canna be gude;
If I be lordly, the lads will look by me:
O dear minny, what shall I do.

For beauty and fortune the laddie’s been courtin’:
Weel-featur’d, weel-tocher’d, weel-mounted, an’ braw,
But chiefly the siller that gars him gang till her –
The penny’s the jewel that beautifies a’!

Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North,
The birthplace of valour, the country of worth!
Wherever I wander, wherever I rove,
The hills of the Highlands for ever I love.

John Anderson my jo, John,
When we were first acquent,
Your locks were like the raven,
Your bonie brow was brent;
But now your brow is beld, John,
Your locks are like the snaw,
But blessings on your frosty prow,
John Anderson, my jo!

Our thrissles flourish’d fresh and fair,
And bonie bloom’d our roses;
But Whigs cam’ like a frost in June,
An’ wither’d a’ our posies.

They’ve lost some gallant gentlemen,
Amang the Highland clans, man!
I fear Lord Panmure is slain,
Or in his en’mies’ hands, man.

Tho women’s minds like winter winds
May shift and turn, an’ a’ that,
The noblest breast adores them maist –
A consequence, I draw that.

I faught at land, I faught at sea,
At hame I faught my auntie, O;
But I met the Devil an’ Dundee,
On the braes o’ KIlliecrankie, O.
