Threetowners cycling thread
Re: Threetowners cycling thread
Just followed the cycle path from Irvine to ayr this morning stopped at the pavilion for a drink then headed home.
Pretty much the same way home only I took the local cycle route at Troon then went through shewalton woods and round riverside then hame. 35 miles today.
I noticed at the bottom of ayr high street (where the indoor market and woolies used to be) has been demolished. I wonder what's going in there?

Flats and a hotel seemingly Bonzo. We were just talking about that at lunchtime - hope they are not going to use red brick, the old sandstone buildings were lovely. Ayr town centre is a really run down mess these days

Bonzo,
Firstly, over 30,000 views now for this thread. Well done. I enjoy reading it.
Secondly, I have a fond memory of the Woolworths building and am sorry to hear of its demise.
Thirdly, by coincidence, I was meeting a former colleague in Ayr today and he insisted that we avoid the bottom end of the High Street because of an infestation of rats, apparently caused by the demolition of the Woolworths building.
I thought he was havering but see there is some substance to his misgivings:-

Back to topic now or we'll be getting into bother, although I don't know who is going to be giving us a row since Meg led me down this path .

Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.

Cheers PT I'm only putting on paper (so to speak) something I really enjoy doing. I think the rat thing is only because it's near the river.

Aye thanks Bonzo, I live near a river, a big, big, river!

Out to the far side of Largs today, and back, with a wee loop round the 3 towns to take it up to 50km.
Quite a strong crosswind.
Only one loony driver, and that was just a couple of hundred yards from home. Yes, I know you’re behind me, yes, I know you want past, yes, I know the road is too narrow for you to overtake, that’s why I’m cycling in the middle, not in the gutter, because if I were to cycle there idiots like you would try to squeeze through with inches to spare. You can pass when it’s safe, but it’s me that will decide whether it’s safe, not you. The traffic calming islands in the middle of the road are there for a reason - to stop people overtaking here. So leaning on your horn does no good. I’m sorry I delayed you for a whole 10 seconds. And after you roared past, screaming obscenities at me, I still caught up with you at the traffic lights.
Anyway - a wee milestone today - over 1000 miles since the turn of the year, and 2500 miles on this bike....

Love reading your cycling adventures. Just be careful though. Read today that a cyclist was injured in East Ayrshire at Sorn. Travel safe

What a loon yelling abuse.
"Words are very.... unnecessary... they can only do harm".

Anyone any opinions on hybrid bikes - thinking of indulging myself with a new bike.
