Gub obviously means Mouth, but it was taken a step further with ... "Shut it or I'll gub ye" which meant a threat to punch somedody in the mouth.
Not that the Threetowns was a particularly violent place when I was growing up, it wasn't. These words and phrases were simply used to describe certain unruly occurrences, shall we say.
