Re: Stevenston - On This Day In History
Its been terrible the number of men from the Three Towns who have been killed in the last few weeks. If Russia hadn't surrendered there is a good chance some of those chaps would have survived the War.

I remember handing in 6 ashtrays to the cancer shop and I asked if they would take them as smoking causes cancer and the woman said yes some folk still use them. I thought it a bit weird.

Re: My pet hate
Well Ian there are now on the spot fines of £80 if the dog wardens catch somebody letting their mutt sh-t in a public place. I did have a problem with a woman who let her dog mess on my pavement. I put down some Scoot and that stopped it. There are some bad areas in the three towns however some have...

Re: Wildlife in Stevenston
I saw a hedge sparrow in the garden to-day unfortunately on its own. They have suffered terribly from magpies taking their eggs. Some folk might dismiss them as just a spug but they are a different species. Amazingly they lay the most beautiful blue eggs you ever saw.

Re: Threetowners cycling thread
Got out for an hour and a half this morning. Castlepark to the coloured seats at North crescent road in Ardrossan. It's good to see they have filled in a lot of the potholes on dubbs rd, so not so much dodging the shell holes now. 20 miles. The worst part of that road was under the wee railway brid...

Actually I usually go into these places to get out of the rain. Over the years I have given a lot of nice stuff to a local charity shop and in that shop I've yet to have a thank you.

Re: ANZAC's - And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda
Listen to the words of this now legendary anti-war song, written and performed by fellow Scottish expatriate, Eric Bogle. To my mind the best anti-war song ever written. ANZAC day falls on the 25th of April each year and is commemorated in both Australia and New Zealand. https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Viv I thought you avoided that bus. Anyway that's the way a lot of folk talk locally now you wouldn't want to stifle that young man's development would you?

Re: Wildlife in Stevenston
There was quite an extensive marsh at the bottom end of Ardeer mains mainly because the master goat (goot) wasn't maintained. I have recently written about carrion crows and they are very common in Stevenston and they are terrible plunderers of mallard 's nests That marsh had breeding mallards and a...

Re: The ... What are you doing or thinking right now - Topic
I went in there one day and had a bad feeling about the place. I opened the drawer on a dressing table and there were some weevils. Are there any cracks in your table where spores could lurk? Sometimes if you bring old things into your house that have a bad history then the result can make things di...

Re: ANZAC's - And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda
I bet the kangeroos were pleased now THEY know what its like to be shot at. There was no hope for that campaign. They lost a lot of their heavy guns when the supporting battleships were sunk by mines. They didn't have enough men anyway and it was a terrible waste of young men on both sides. Another ...
