Re: The ... What are you doing or thinking right now - Topic
:hi: Uppermost in my mind today is the fact that it's my late brother Billy's 67th. birthday - he didn't quite make it to age 22 as he died 2 weeks before Xmas 1970 :( . I doubt he'd have lasted as long as he did if we'd stayed in Ardrossan - the climate where we lived in New Zealand made it possibl...

Re: Happy birthday - Bob Bryden
Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes. I couldn't read your messages yesterday or the day before as my tempremental laptop refused to connect or open up either my email program or any website on my browser. Just came right a few moments ago - have absolutely no idea what the problem was. I regret ...

Re: Words we used
PAPER POKE = paper bag. Mentioned the term "paper poke" to an English lady we once knew - she hadn't a clue so had to rephrase. She was from about Kent but her husband was from Ayr.

Re: THE WANGANUI RAM CLUB
Never heard or seen any sign of a Wanganui RAMS Rugby Club in Wanganui & I've lived here for the past 28 years. There is or was a large Scottish contingent not exactly in Wanganui but in & around Turakina which is a country hamlet a few miles east of here & is the site of what is one of ...

I was too as that seemed the obvious solution. Either that or "Royal Acadeny of Music".I was surprised that it didn't seem to have anything to do with sheep!

Re: THE WANGANUI RAM CLUB
When studying N.Z. political history around Seddon's & Stout's time it's noticeable that a lot of them had very similar beards & were solidly built making clearly identifying who's who a bit awkward. In my all too brief spell at Victoria University in Wellington in 1970 one of my subjects wa...

Re: THE WANGANUI RAM CLUB
Just came across this post.I've never heard of the "Wanganui RAM Club" even though I've lived here in Wanganui for the past 28 years. Also the link to the photograph is captioned "Stout" who was another prominent politician here round about Seddon's time. Also googled "Wanga...

Re: The worst stretcher bearers ever
:hi: I can relate to how the unfortunate player on the stretcher must have felt. Many years ago before being made redundant I was involved in a Civil Defence exercise at the local racecourse. The incident in question involved me being strapped into a stretcher & lowered from a first floor balcon...

Re: The ... What are you doing or thinking right now - Topic
Likewise never seen a hard frost here where I am in N.Z. So far this winter we've only had 4 days where frost has been visible on the grass but that soon vanishes when the sun comes up. I don't think I could stand another Ardrossan winter like the last one (62-63) before we left for N.Z. Thankfully ...
