Re: GOSPEL HALL TRIP - PHOTO

Hughie, I thought you had made that name up anyway. Harvey is not your standard Ardrossan christian name. Then I began to recollect, and I think I'm right, TEMPLE was a family who lived in one of the houses that in the middle of the Dalry Road brae overlooking HARVEY's Park (now HARVEY Gardens). I w...

Re: GOSPEL HALL TRIP - PHOTO

I now believe the boy standing on the extreme right is Billy McCrindle (Dalry Road) and the wee boy sitting at the front his wee brother Donald. The best bets we have so far is: BACK ROW - Jock Trodden (Definite) SECOND ROW - LEFT TO RIGHT Eddie Macintyre (definite); Tommy Findlay (possible); David ...

Re: THE CONTINENTAL CAFE, ARDROSSAN

I always believed that "IZZIE", as I always called her as opposed to "EZZIE", was Italian. Now I don't know why. Meg and Hughie have got me thinking however, that she may have been of Turkish origin. There is at least one, possibly two Turkish/Cypriots football players in the UK ...

Re: GOSPEL HALL TRIP - PHOTO

Netta,

Could be. He's one that's got me beat. The only Findlay's I can recollect were David Findlay and his sister Ella at 23 Ailsa Gardens.

Re: GOSPEL HALL TRIP - PHOTO

Hughie,

Sorry, I'll give you Tommy Blackwood too - (front row fourth from the left). I don't know and never heard of Harvie Temple. I thought the boy with the hat was John Thompson latterly of Clyde Terrace?

And what on earth did it say on the hat. Can anyone remember?

Re: GOSPEL HALL TRIP - PHOTO

Hughie, We've definitely got three - David Denver - (Back row middle); Eddie Macintyre - (back row extreme left); Jim Macintyre - Back row 4th from the left); - I'm not at all sure about your suggestion for Alexander (front row second from the left) - if we're thinking about the Alexanders at 13 Cas...

Re: THE CONTINENTAL CAFE, ARDROSSAN

Hughie, Thanks for that cross-reference. It's spot on and exactly how I remember my one visit there. It was a dark, sinister, scary place and whatever she did to my Mars Bar ensured I never went back back. She was scary too. You're maybe right, it was probably an establishment only intended for sail...

Re: GOSPEL HALL TRIP - PHOTO

Bobnetau, I agree it's David Denver immediately in front of Jock Trodden. When you queried if it was 'Hugh' second from the left in the second row did you mean - 'Hughie McCallum' because that's what I thought. However, I sent him the photo privately and he says "no". Do you think he's ash...

GOSPEL HALL TRIP - PHOTO

An Adrossan Gospel Hall Trip in the 50's with Jock Trodden, who has received many positive mentions on THREETOWNERS, but who are the boys? I've got some ideas but I would like confirmation.

Re: THE CONTINENTAL CAFE, ARDROSSAN

Thanks for these contributions. OILERS is right. Going down Glasgow Street towards the harbour it was on the right hand side (between the bottom Maroni's and Princes Street where Eugene's was located. In my mind the owner, an elderly woman, was called "Old Izzie", maybe "Ezzie" a...

Re: I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED.........!

John,

Our messages clearly 'crossed' each other there with you getting in first. What have I said to make you "immensely curious" in my chosen career path?
