Re: Disgusted

a guy was halfway through the door of the tube and he collapsed with what turned out to be a heart attack. An off duty nurse and I ended up lifting him off the tube and onto the platform (at the insistence of other passengers - lovely people all in a hurry to get to work) That is just one step away...

Re: I liked this!

I remember seeing this performed live at a student Christmas party, using an overhead projector: the Rector's face was the last slide up.

Re: Old ads

Brilliant marketing strategy! Play on the fears and social stigma of the sufferer to pay cash for the hope of a cure without having to face a possibly judgmental GP. And when it doesn't work how likely were they to be sued....?

Re: 'Good news to the afflicted', 1838

I would guess that that big plook saved me from an awful lot of imprudence or at least took away the opportunities. Had I gone to Kenya at the time, poachers might have darted me and sawn it off to sell on the black market! :(

Re: 'Good news to the afflicted', 1838

Disagree. Icy water only douses the "imprudent excitement", boiling water cures the underlying problem permanently and not an antibiotic in sight.

Re: 'Good news to the afflicted', 1838

I had plooks and no one was "suspicious at home."

I believe a good dousing with a pail of boiling water is the best remedy for the affliction in question. :D

Re: Scots Wiki

Well, I wouldn't want it made illegal or anything  but I just can't get too excited about the Scots revival. I consider it my own first language (English second, Gaelic third), but I have a number of issues with it from a historical perspective. It really is a homegrown development of Northumb...

Re: Auchanshangan and Saltcoats?

Sounds like someone with no Gaelic just plucked entries out of a Scots dictionary down at the library headquarters! My money is going on what has been said already: achadh na seangán = antfield (field of ants) achadh - field na - definite article in the genitive plural seangán - ants, genitive plura...
