Re: Horse Island
For years as a youngster, I thought that Horse Island was so called because there were horses on it. Apparently, this isn't the case. http://www.ayrshireroots.com/Towns/Ardrossan/Ardrossan%20History.htm states that it is named after Philip Horsse otherwise known as Philip de Horssey. Philip Horsse l...

Re: New Housing Development in Montgomerie Steet, Ardrossan
I passed the site today, Mitchy, and it has been completely fenced off. The platforms are outside the perimeter suggesting that they are not part of the development.Mitchy wrote:I wonder if this development will mean that the old Ardrossan North Station platforms will finally be removed?

Re: New Housing Development in Montgomerie Steet, Ardrossan
The platforms appear to be outwith the boundaries of the building site, Mitchy, but time will tell if they will be removed.

Re: 'Lads of Saltcoats' (The)
Thanks for letting know, Penny Tray, that there is a Scottish country dance called The Lads of Saltcoats. I discovered recently that there is a dance called Miss Johnstone of Ardrossan. It is called after Muriel Johnstone, a musician who must have lived in or near Ardrossan because on her website sh...

You are right about Montfode Burn. It enters the sea near the Greasy Pole on the North Shore.
