Re: Ardrossan Castle
Yes Frank, I remember the paintings, especially the paddle steamer it was painted with a black tar like substance. that was back in the late 40s , but I have no idea how long it had been their before that. I also remember the Dog but it was quite faint even then. Maybe that was the first evidence of...

Re: Ardrossan 1910 - image question
Sorry I meant to add, I don't know what that tall pole is at the top of Glasgow street, but the one on the left near the boy is one of the old Gas street lamps, I remember when the man used to go round the streets with a long pole and light up all the lamps.

Re: Ardrossan 1910 - image question
Yes Hugh, a great photo, I have this one in my collection. That could easily have been our wee gang 30 years later. The Photo was taken almost outside the tenement where I lived , which is two doors down on the right hand side, just off picture. I'm sure the horse and cart is the Rag and Bone man, C...

Re: Glasgow Street
I always thought that the canal streets mentioned in Saltcoats and Stevenston were named after the canal from the old auchenharvie Coal fields, and separate from the proposed canal to Glasgow. I think Glasgow street being wide and straight was simply very good planning with an eye to the future when...

Re: A Look Back At Ayrshire Farming
