Susan
Many thanks for your regular posting of the school pics. I enjoy all of them, recognising faces and, more so, appreciating it when you can give us names too. Forgetting those has always been my problem

Re: Retiring
I was tired too Catherine and hear what you are saying. I could have written what Retsum said and agree 100% with it. Retirement for me has been great and I bet you’ll find that too. I wish you the very best and hope you enjoy having time to relax more.

Re: HMS Hood at Ardrossan in 1926
I watched it too SC and oddly, it brought back a memory that I’d not thought about for years. My grandmother lived in Glasgow Street and, according to my late father, took in many navy boarders during WW2. Some became regulars and a good few were on the arctic convoys. She was apparently very fond o...

PT, I too send my condolences to you and the family. Like Meg, I went through school with George and I have very happy memories of him. We messaged a good few times about his WW1 postings here as I too have an interest and his in-depth knowledge was outstanding.

Re: Wildlife in Stevenston
I regulalrly see slugs climbing up through the soil in the garden especially when its wet. I read an article a few weeks ago about the drop in so many garden birds here in the UK. It mentioned that many thought the drop was in some part due to them eating dead slugs/snails that have been poisoned by...

Re: Think Tank - how do we get back to where we were?
Meg Getting back to your first post, two of the best threads for me on this board have been Laurence's Fancy Gaun for a Walk – Ardrossan and Susan's A Stroll round 1960s Saltcoats. Many folks joined in and I think perhaps because we all enjoy the memories. It works for me. Would it be worth having s...

Well spotted, Laurence and thanks for the photo Susan. Really great to see Sammy again. A kind, gentle man and a close friend of my late brother's. I've very happy memories of the whole family.

Re: Ardrossan Academy sports and other group photos session 1963-64
Meg, yes there were four brothers. I used to be up at the filter house a lot when I was a kid (was pals with Tommy). I remember the brothers but I'm ashamed to say I've forgotten all their names until I read this thread. I also remember their mum and dad too, really nice kindly folks. It was Mrs Cli...

Re: Ardrossan Highland Games photo's
Bruce Did George Kerr live in Stanley Avenue, Ardrossan? I remember the house closest to the railway bridge on Dalry road had a large wooden hut, which had a traction engine in it. Mind, that's well over 40 years ago now. The house previously belonged to the Howie family who had a coal and tile busi...
