Hi Threetowners,
I just had my 80th birthday party last Saturday, the 27th may. It was a great success we all had a great time. But it did bring home to me that 80 is pretty old and I wondered if there are many more Threetowners 80 and over.

Re: Have you ever climbed Goat Fell on Arran?
At one time in the 50s there was a foot race form Brodick to the cairn at the top of Goatfell. I haven't heard anything about this race for years now so suppose it no longer happens.
maybe it should be started up again, would be a good tourist attraction.

Re: Jock Shearer
I remember Jock {sergeant} Shearer as a very tough Cop but also very fair with a great sense of humor. As a young lad I once hit him with a snowball, I'm not sure about his reaction as our wee gang all run away. But I do remember him shouting something. He knew who I was, but nothing every came of i...

Re: Bona Fide travellers
The bona Fide travelers act was a farce, and quite a laugh. I'm remembering the 50s People from Kilwinning would come to Ardrossan for a drink on the pretense that they were going to largs, The Ardrossan mob would go to kilwinning for a drink on the pretense they were going to Kilmarnock. The result...

Re: iona cottage
Hi Deirdre,
Yes I will take your advise and knock on the door of 31 hill place, as you say, nothing to loose, I'll do that when I am over in August.

Re: iona cottage
Just to add to my last post. Robert Storrar who leased "Iona Cottage" died in June of 1899. So Deirdre your relative's must have bought or leased the cottage after Roberts death as I know his wife who survived him moved to Troon and lived with her daughter Elizabeth Forester, who by the wa...

Re: iona cottage
Hi Deirdre, Welcome the threetowners, a great place to be. My Great Grand father Robert Storrar, leased Iona cottage back in the 1890. That's where my grand-father George Fleming married Robert's daughter Isabella {Isa} in 1897. Next time I am in Scotland which will be August next year, I think I sh...

Re: Air Raid Shelter In Ardrossan Castle
I don't remember any air raid shelter at the Castle or even having heard of one. We did have one in our back yard as many other people had. I cant imagine having to run all the way up the cannon hill to get to a shelter, surely the German planes would have passed over before one could reach the shel...
