Nostalgia
As a guy called Peter de Vries once said "Nostalgia isn't what it used to be" Why is it my memory recalls my growing up in the Threetowns with pleasure ? Memories of a vibrant community, where the sun always shone, there was plenty of employment, and the local economy thrived with tourism,...

Tommy Hughes
I was trying to explain to a young work colleague how "in the old days" life was so different and used the example of Tommy Hughes - PE Teacher at the Academy for years. We took our PE lessons wearing only a pair of white gym shorts - nothing else ! If you did something you shouldn't then ...

Re: Ardrossan Academy Primary?
I went to the Academy - primary and secondary - and we certainly weren't well off. I think it was fee paying maybe back in the 1930s but my older brothers both went in the early '50s and there were no fees. I think it depended on where you lived. In the '60s, you had to pass the "qualy" to...

Re: The Horrors in Norway
Morag, This is meant to be a serious reply. "loner in school, extremist beliefs" - loads of them in the West of Scotland ! Hate to bring it down to basics but the Threetowners has its share of sad individuals with extremist beliefs - on both sides of the religious divide. There but for the...

Re: Cafes in the Threetowns
Lynda, the years have destroyed my memory ! Coming down from the Station was Veronica's then a cafe (Garden Grill) the Lennox's pub then a cafe (the one I am trying to remember) owned by a balding Italian - my Dad used to leave me in there with a bottle of Coke while he went next door for a pint ! W...
