Re: creamola foam makes a comeback

Richard,
Where were you in the '60s ???
Clear connection as far as I am concerned as I fondly remember drinking cremola foam - it is as much part of my memories as all the other things we ate and drank back then.

Re: Ardrossan Academy Staff Photo session 1956/7

All my schooldays were spent at the Academy from 1956 onwards - starting in the Primary and progressing to the Secondary after passing my "quail" I remember most of the teachers well - some more than others - but I doubt if any of them would remember me. I even think at the time I was larg...

Re: Life in Saltcoats today;& can the town centre improve ?

I left Saltcoats in the very late '60s and have rarely gone back. Last time was 3 or 4 years ago and it seemed such a run down place compared to what I remember. Whether that is just me and my rose tinted glasses I can't tell. I have really fond memories of all three towns - shops were varied and pl...

The smell from Carinos hairdressers in Countess Street 4, The ice cream factory at Seabank Street 5. S...

Re: bands from saltcoats

I was an apprentice with John Boyd and went to see him when he was with the Trax before he joined the Chase. Was also at achool with John Pettigrew although a wee but younger. I remember one sunday when the Chase with Jimmy Slaven played outside in someones back garden up Corrie Crescent in Saltcoat...

Re: Killie win the Cup !

The tragic death of Liam Kelly's Dad at the final whistle puts everything into perspective. How sad life can be that even the moments of greatest joy can be destroyed by tragic sadness. The weekend's events show we should treasure what we have because who knows what the future holds. My heart goes o...

Re: Jimmy Slaven

Thanks for that.
It's amazing how some of us travel away from the three towns and yet some never leave even for holidays !
John was a good singer - hope he is well.
Other band playing members from my youth were Jim Davidson and Trevor O'Rourke - any news of either ?

The Belt !

Now living in England, I was trying to explain to a couple of much younger work colleagues the concept of "The Belt" at school. They were amazed and thought it was something out of the dark ages ! At first they thought I was winding them up - they couldn't believe I once got 3 of the belt ...
