Re: Howie's Rolls - who knows the recipe
I remember in the 50's there was a bakery shop situated on the corner of Raise Street just opposite the station. We used to buy our morning rolls direct from the bakery. Oh the smell was just great. Does anyone else remember it or its name?

Re: Scottish independance - how would you vote?
:puter I totally agreed with "danmac". Scotland gets a Helluva lot from being part of Britain!! I must say,"get rid of this government. "You can blether all you want but on our own we will be worse off separated from the rest of Britain. I have lived in Sheffield for 50yrs. but ...

Re: Scottish independance - how would you vote?
I would vote emphatically NO. I am also an exiled Scot but whatever income Scotland 's North Sea oil/gas and the sale of whisky etc. might bring in. These would not be enough to run the country on Let's not also forget the money we owe the Bank of England...wow.... if Scotland had to pay that back w...

The Musical Mr. McCann
One clear memory I have of JJ is when he taught us the song "Kelly The Boy From Killane" even to this day I enjoy listening to the Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem singing this song.

Re: St Mary's Jacks Road/Springvale Street
Thanks "Wellparkno9" The name McGuinnes seems to stir memories however I thought he died while he wsstill our teacher! Maybe he was just seriously ill. You say he died about '58/'59 that would put me about 17/18. I guess my memory is fading. Your description of McGuinness seems to fit the ...

Re: St Mary's Jacks Road
I used to live in Glebe Street when St. Mary's was in Springvale Street/Union Street across from the smelly gas works. This was back in 1953. Although I didn't have very far to go to school I always managed to be late! I also remember Mr. McCann waiting to catch all the late comers. With his awful s...

Re: lees lemonade factory ardrossan 50-60s
Hi Lee's lemonade factory was my first place of work back in the fifties. I remember the old machines (what there were of them) , sticking the labels on by hand etc. and the general conditions we worked under. In the cold winter months we used to sit huddled around the fire and munched our jam butti...

Re: John Whites Waltzer at the Braes Saltcoats
Hi, I always lost what, in those days was a small fortune, on the penny slot machines hoping to win a small fortune or at least enough to pay for a ride on the waltzer (my favourite ride). Needless to say my pocket money was eaten up on those damn machines which were always the winners. Did anybody ...

Re: Christmas & New Year Greetings
Merry Xmas and a Happy 2010 to all.
I am not looking forward to a White Xmas as it is too dangerous for people who travel to be together with their family and or friends. Snow looks good on cards but not on roads
