I had a conversation recently about why we only played rugby at Ardrossan Academy in the 1960s and I seem to recall it was because Tommy Hughes the PE teacher had been banned for life from playing or coaching football. Can anyone confirm if this is true and shed any light on his "cri

Re: Old betting shops in the three towns
I remember a couple which have been mentioned previously. One was at Kyleshill up some stairs if I remember correctly. The other at Wheatley Road. I used to go there with my older brother. I also remember my Dad having his "nomme de plume" but I can't remember what it was. My brother wasn'...

Ardrossan Academy Teachers
A random conversation led me to remember some teachers at the Academy who, based on modern standards, would have been prosecuted for child abuse today. Lexi Dunlop for slapping me violently on the back of the head. Tommy Hughes for smacking boys on the bottom with a gym shoe. Mrs Seaman for giving u...

Re: Steve Clarke
I remeber playing against Frankie Clarke in a junior league game. Our manager told me to "stick close to him" and, as I always made up for lack of talent by following instructions to the letter I "man marked" him for the whole game. It wasn't pretty but it was very effective - we...

Re: Summer of '63 !
Had a day out in Liverpool today and visited the Beatles Exhibition.
Brought back lots of memories of the early 60s amd is well worth a visit.
The recreation of the Cavern nightclub is excellent and brings back memories of sweaty dance halls and groups playing "beat" music.

Re: Three towns to Kilmarnock
My Dad and a number of Uncles were all engine drivers for British Railways. I remember getting the train from Ardrossan South Beach loads of time in the 50s and early 60s to Kilmarnock. I think the line was a victim of the Beecham cuts in the 60's and then it was the bus we had to rely on. I worked ...

Where we're you ?
What were you doing in the summer of '63 ?
I was 12 just going into Secondary School and the summer seemed to last forever.

Re: Is there sectarianism in the 3Ts?
Sorry Richard but totally disagree. To attack an institution is to attack the instution's members - and rightly so since the organisation cannot survive without followers - just like a fire needs oxygen. So the Masonic Lodge cannot be separated from its members, the Catholc Church from Catholics, th...
