Re: windmill st.,on the rocks

Thanks for replacing the missing photo Hughie, I think I’ve long since lost access to where it was hosted. Here’s an article on the history of the bathing pond, including the wee bath house (or both of them, as it turns out), if anyone is interested. It definitely wasn’t a pump house as was thought ...

Origin of B&W photos

Hello all, a long time since I last posted on here. Over the years the below images have been posted on this forum, I was just wondering if anyone can identify their original source? I'd like to use them in some articles and it would be good to know where they came from, and if there's any way of ge...

Re: Three towns - districts or suburbs

Someone was telling me the other week that the "HAYOCKS" is NOT as I thought it was. It seems Campbell Avenue, Cambuskeith, etc. do not consider themselves "The Hayocks" - I never, ever knew that. Seems a bit mad seeing as streets like Hyslop Road, etc. are only minutes away????...

Re: " A Saunter roon Stinstin"

The castle ruin is still intact, see the Wikipedia entry here for some photos. The most recent photos were taken in 2006 (and 2008) but it pretty much looks exactly the same 5 years on, although the large tree that was in the middle of the ruin has since been chopped down, not sure if this was the s...

Re: " A Saunter roon Stinstin"

Hi all, I'm back from having the house extended. Murder-polis while it was going on, but really pleased with the result; attic-extension to create new bedroom. that's why I've hardly been around this last 3 - 4 weeks. I'm not so sure that these gates are the Kerlaw gates. On the left-hand side at K...

Re: Scotland’s biggest brownfield regeneration

Its worth reading this new material on the 'masterplan', which indicates NPL seem very keen to have plenty of links with Stevenston. Irvine is barely mentioned in this document aside from referencing some housing at Irvine Harbour. The new article also states that there will be no road access from I...

Re: Scotland’s biggest brownfield regeneration

Stevenston was mentioned in the BBC News report ( watch here ), it got a passing mention and some video footage of the public toilet in Townhead Street. Exciting stuff there. IIRC the plan is to have access to the Ardeer site from Stevenston, Irvine and, as someone mentioned, the A78 bypass. ...

Re: Somerfield

The Saltcoats Somerfield is not being demolished, nor is it being taken over by Co-op. The 'news' from the3towns.com seems to be out of date: Sainsbury's are taking over the store (Mitchy's taxi driver sources are once again correct :D ). I believe the store is closing for three months while renovat...

Re: Local Van Hire

Used A&E Van Hire a couple of times and never had a problem, reasonable prices. They are based in Stevenston Industrial Estate on the former Nylon Plant site. 01294463049
