Re: Royal Celebrations in the Three Towns

I remember the street party in Whitecraig Road for the Coronation and watched TV in someone's house there too. Got the chocolates in the tin box, used as a pencil case for years but lost now although I still have the mug. Funny the things you hang on to!!

Re: Roy Orbison and The Beatles

I was there too Chriso. What a concert that was. The following year - 1964 - the Beatles arrived in Australia. We arrived at the same time and we seemed to follow them as they toured from Adelaide to Melbourne to Sydney to Brisbane where we caught up with them. Although I didn't see them in concert ...

Re: Have you ever climbed Goat Fell on Arran?

Hi Hughie,
You need another option for those who have tried, some of us more than once, but have never made it to the top.

Sweeties, any colour, any sort. I think it stems from never having had enough money to buy enough now I can, I do.

Re: An Unforgetable and Unforgivable Incident at Ardrossan A

JD asked if anyone had actually enjoyed their school days and I can only reply that we were not sent to school to enjoy it. Someone described war as being mainly boredom with moments of sheer terror. Sounds like school to me, the playground as well as the classroom!

Re: An Unforgetable and Unforgivable Incident at Ardrossan A

I was lucky and only experienced the belt twice in my time at the Academy. Once was from Miss Abercrombe, the French teacher. I remember that she told the class that her name was Abercrombe, not Apple Crumble, I still laugh at that one. My other experience with the belt was from Bella Johnstone who ...

Re: Ardrossan Academy in the '60s

Oh the pain of that sewn on badge. Being made to feel different right from the start. When I was due for a new blazer we had already made arrangements to emigrate so decided not to buy any blazer and this meant being called out almost every morning by Maggie Tait to explain why I was wearing an anor...

Re: Country dance

Hi Netta, Yes, I knew both Glenda Inglis and Sandra Barbour at the Shell Club Dancing. They always danced in the more advanced sets. I was always in the set right at the end of the hall and we were always in trouble because we could never seem to get it right. Poor Mr Miller often lost his patience ...

Re: Queensland Cyclones

Thanks Netta,
I just love to visit Ardrossan but I don't think that now I could cope with the cold. I just can't imagine living with all that snow!!

Re: Queensland Cyclones

Hi there, Thanks for your kind thoughts. We just got power back in our area today. As you heard from Al the eye of the cyclone passed north of us here in Townsville. The damage in the city has been trees down and power lines down, water out too for some people. We evacuated as we are near the beach ...

Re: Country dance

I first went to Country Dancing at the Shell Club, off Princess Street on a Saturday morning. I was about 8 I think and the teacher was Mr Miller, who was a gym teacher. I also danced at Ardrossan Academy when my prayers were answered and there was no gym or sport. When I came to Australia I continu...
