What I meant, John, is that the photos are of different parts of the same wall, and my thinking is the slots are part of the ventilation for what was the Eglinton Hotel stables.

Someone posted the image on the left on FB saying it was on the back wall of the new Medical Centre. So, that would be the area behind the old Police Station. The image on the right is posted on page two of this topic. There is mention of it being the back of the stables of the Old Eglinton Hotel so...

Just started to get into a book by Robert Crais. About a private investigator by the name of Elvis in LA - think it might be his first book but it's held my interest so far. It's called 'The Monkey's Raincoat.
