Seems to be no remedy as Supemarkets take over killing the wee shops and Pubs...much cheaper to drink at home. Still love the place th...

Re: A wee bit o' Burns

Fondly remember Burns Night at Saltcoats Public circa 1962. Our class presented Tam O'Shanter. Two lines I'll never forget; - "THESE BREEKS OF MINE MY ONLY PAIR" spoken by a boy (wont name) who was wearing his only breeks! - "THERE SAT THE DEIL IN SHAPE OF BEAST" - this was my li...

Re: Junior Football Exhibition in Heritage Centre, Saltcoats

I'm so glad someone has done this. Junior Football was to me enormous. My Team Slatcoats Victoria as a fan was terrific. The crowds were significant basically due to Pubs closing 2:30 until 5:00! I recall my favourite Team being: Paton; McCallum snf McLeish (called Manual at the time as he was a kil...

Re: Parkend Cottages, c 1957

My Mum (Patsy McGowan) Granny (Babs McGowan) two Uncles and an Aunt all lived in Parkend road. My Uncle Joe used to always talk about 'doon Parkend' refering to his childhood.
The houses are long gone as I never got to see where they stayed.

So sad that Billy and Mary are gone and possibly others.
I'm still 'kicking' here in Melbourne Australia.
Love looking at the photos and remembering good friends and pals.
Thanks for the memories. Back in Scotland 15/6/2018 to visit Denny again

Re: Can this be true?

http://www.ilivehere.co.uk/saltcoats.html I was browsing google with my new internet connection and found the above topic. If you go there you will be as shocked as I was. I lived in Raise street for years as a young boy and have only good memories. OK I haven't been there for many years but surely...
