That is not the John I am looking for. His occupation was dynamite work/ chemist. And he differently died in 1956 in Durban. He was staying with his daughter at the time.

The Mary you found the ages are wrong. Margaret was about 4 by the year 1910.

Yes John Campbell Taylor born in Joburg is Jr.

I have looked and looked. Think it is time to let this query rest the info does not seam to be available yet.

Thanks sheenaj

Kaymay,

I'm assuming it's just a 'typo' but Eastfield was a house name in Gladstone Road, Saltcoats.

Thanks all for the info. Sheenaj if you want anything more on the Mary law Taylor I do have a few records for her and her siblings. I have her mother Margaret Roy b. abt 1836 and died 1916 Springvale street, Saltcoats.

I final found Mary Law Taylor nee Stevely passenger list for her coming to South Africa.

Mary and her three sons, James, Archie and Duncan left Southampton on the 18 Feb 1905 aboard the "Guelph" for Cape Town.

"Guelph 3 voyage
Southampton
Taylor Mrs M 30
Taylor Master J 5
Taylor Master A 3
Taylor Master D 2
Cape"

She then left South Africa in Dec 1905 with her three sons aboard the "Galician" Departing from Delagoa Bay (Durban) for London, Southampton.

Then in 12 Feb 1906 she gives birth to her daughter Margaret Roy Taylor in Eastfield road, Saltcoats.Mary signs the birth record.

Next thing Mary and her children are in South Africa and another son is born in 1913 at Modderfotein, Johannesburg.

So when did she return to South Africa? some were between 1906 and 1913.

John I have still have not found when he came to SA.

The Ardrossan & Saltcoats Herald of 16 Feb 1906 carried the Birth Notice of a female TAYLOR apparently born at "Eastfield", Gladstone Road, Saltcoats, father's forename listed as John. No details regarding mother.

Robert's occupation as a civilian was a Lorry driver and handyman.

My research indicates during either late April/early May 1899, a James STEVELY married one Mary ROY at the Saltcoats Town Hall.
Is it possible when she returned to Scotland and having no residence, Mary resided with James and Mary; her parents?? In 1906, Margaret was born and named Margaret Roy TAYLOR.

I assume you restricted your search for her return by 1912 due to a S.A. birth that year? May I suggest searching ALL S.A. ports, as it was not uncommon for cargo vessels to carry passengers, as remains the case even today. Customs records may be your best bet here. Are you searching for her as "Immigrant" or "Resident"?

Ship passanger lists

I have looked every where online that is free for ship passenger lists for 1900 - 1912 to South Africa. Looking for my great grand father John Campbell Taylor b. 3 Jun 1874 Saltcoats Dynamite worker, emigration to South Africa. He either landed in Cape Town or Durban in the Natal Colony as it was know then.
Do not know if his wife and three sons went with him at the same time or joined him later.
Wife's name Mary Law Stevely b. 8 May 1878 Stevenston - sons James Stevely Taylor b. 3 Apr 1899 Saltcoats, Archibald Taylor b. 28 Jan 1901 Saltcoats and Duncan Taylor b. 29 Nov 1902 Saltcoats.

I did find a passenger list for Mary Law Stevely/ Mrs. Mary Taylor and her three sons leaving South Africa in Dec 1905. From Durban to London on the ship 'Galician" She was running back home where she later gave birth to a daughter Margaret Roy Taylor on the 12 Feb 1906 Saltcoats.

I have not found any passenger list where she and her children returned to South Africa. She must have, for two more children were born in South Africa in Germiston.

Any help please
Thanks
