Dad's Second Wife

by Hughie » Thu Oct 04, 2018 12:15 pm

I was too young to recall anything about my Dad's second wife. But with a bit of research I find that they married in 1947 in Glasgow - Dad never mentioned this to me. Though, over the years there were murmurs from my elder siblings that there was a marriage. The brides name was Mary Millar Rooney and she lived at 54 Millar Road in Saltcoats according to the marriage certificate. Parents were deceased at the time and were Joseph Rooney coal miner and Martha Rooney m.s. Colvin. One of the witnesses was Rachel Rae a neighbour of the bride.

She must have been right smitten with dad for her to marry into a family with four kids - I was the youngest. I can't recall Mary, but I'm so hoping, Mary went on to have a good life.

Auld Hughie went on to marry his third wife whom he met at the Lyric Bingo after we'd all flown the coop.
