Nan, I don't pretend to know what is wrong, but when I was trying to research my own family tree I eventually discovered the website of the General register Office of Scotland (GROS) which is called "Scotlandspeople". It gives access to births, marriages, deaths and censuses for a very small charge. Congratulations to ASH for sterling work, but, as Alex says, if it's not in the paper there's nothing he can do about that. hoping this helps you and anybody else who is trying to trace their roots.
